There is no single scientific name for all fish because “fish” is a common term for a diverse group of aquatic vertebrates, not a single taxonomic group. Instead, fish are classified within the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, and are further divided into classes like Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fish, like sharks and rays) and Osteichthyes (bony fish, like tuna and salmon). Each individual fish species has its own unique scientific name, following the binomial nomenclature system.
